The response to that offensive posting has left me near speechless. If that didn't warrant an immediate and permanent ban what does?
This just reinforces the view that the IETF does not take this kind of behavior seriously.
Michael if I understand you correctly, your position is that the standard operating procedures should not max out at a 14-day posting restriction, as they currently do.
To be clear, are you asking for a Level 3 (or perhaps 4) which implements a posting restriction of indefinite duration?
Don’t know if he is, but I would certainly support that.
I think somebody else pointed out that not banning this person immediately and permanently effectively bans all those people who cannot tolerate his behavior and/or the response of the IETF.
Given that this kind of behavior has been going on for years in other contexts (and usually means a permanent ban from the platform) the IETF should have been prepared to deal with it without discussion. A 14 day posting ban is frankly insulting to the victims.
In this case it seems obvious (at least to me) that the ban
should be immediate and permanent. I've watched other incidents
unfold and I'd suggest that starting a discussion on whether or
not the behavior warrants suspension simply leads to more
offensive postings from the offender. An immediate ban without
comment followed up by a private discussion with the individual
and targets might lead to a better outcome for all concerned.
