Sorry. There are a number if diagnostic files attached to the many
duplicate bug reports about this, linked from the one I referenced in
the original message:

For the first time I noticed the reference to "time-admin" crashing, or
perhaps it's actually ntpd that's crashing: 

type=1505 audit(1253058018.644:12): operation="profile_load" pid=5886

bf91f94c error 4 in libc-2.10.1.so[f39000+151000]`

Although it looks like this may be unrelated log entry having to do
with the "profile_load" operation. 

I am at work now, but can look at this more on my Karmic laptop at
home. I can connect the PIDs from the log files with the name of the
program that may still be running.
