I believe that the Teliann phones do not have an option to send early media. If the phone gets a private IP address from the modem (10.x.x.x, 192.168.x.x, 172.<16-31>.x.x), then the modem is acting as a NAT router. Also, the RCF message on the gnugk console should show both public and private IP addresses, if the endpoint registers from behind a NAT. If you suspect that NAT is causing your trouble, take a phone (of the same model as is failing) that is on a public IP and working properly. Put a NAT router (that is not H.323 aware) in the path and see if you get the same trouble. If the modem can be configured as a bridge, and the ISP doesn't require a PPP or other login not supported by the phone, then bridging mode should fix the problem. Otherwise, you may need to use a NAT router that is H.323 aware, use a different phone that can send RTP during Progress, or it may be possible to reconfigure the terminating gateway to avoid this situation. It is also possible that the modem allows you to forward the UDP ports needed for RTP to the phone, or it may provide a DMZ feature that will avoid the trouble.
