I first tried with gimp/trunk from svn revision 22893 (from 2007-07-06 
22:47:44 +0200); I now tried it again with svn revision 22902 (from 
2007-07-08 17:34:25 +0200), which presumable includes the patch you 
mention; the behavior I described is still the same.

I haven't tried changing the defaults to see if that changes anything.
