Maybe "protectmbr"? I really like Mandrake->Mandriva->Mageia's cmdline option
"readonly=1" that skips any need or opportunity to use the "partitioning"
segment of its installer and does no (IIRC) disk writing anywhere other than
already existing volumes selected for inclusion in fstab.
