I suspect that I'm not the only one who considers it to generally be a waste of time. Maybe it does work correctly these days, but even so I suspect that very few use it unless something goes wrong during install, at which point they might use it the second time. It's always been, IIRC, somewhat time consuming. As long as it's easily turned off that's not a problem. As it's not something _I_ use, you can put put in a progress bar or not, but I won't see it. :) (Hrrm, the Archer episode, where he and Lana are going to become human prey, comes to mind.
