No, the problem is not that Fedora doesn't include those things in the
box. The problem is that Fedora does not admit that users need things
that are not included in the box, does nothing to co-operate with others
that would provide them, and by shipping a wildly moving target with no
coordination, actively breaks everything others even attempt to do in
this regard.
Then, there is nothing that we can do to resolve this which does not:
* Compromise Fedora's position on only including Free Software
* Break US law (and yes, this includes not committing contributory
infringement)
These are the facts. Now, if you think you have a constructive
suggestion on how to solve the problem I stated above which doesn't
compromise Fedora's Free Software only position or break US law, speak
now. Otherwise, please drop this point.
I fail to see how, for example, including a java-1.5.0-sun-compat
package in the box, or maintaining a working relationship with the
jpackage.org packagers would have compromised any sensible positions,
yet it would have dramatically changed the user experience.
