I'm not even sure how to describe it. There's the part about not
admitting that users need things like vendor provided drivers, Sun Java,
VMware, etc. and coordinating with the people that provide them.
There's the part about never coming to terms that the several 3rd party
repositories could agree on to coordinate into one or at least stay in
sync with each other and the core. There's the part about never
including references to any of these 3rd party resources in the distro
so users are forced to discover them on their own and hope they pick the
right one, since they conflict with each other. These are big problems
for anyone trying to use fedora, and something that Ubuntu has taken
care of so it is rarely a user problem. There are some understandable
legal issues involving patented components, but that's not all there is
to it.
