This is just not true. Anyone with an Android or iOS device can set up a software token via FreeOTP [1]. Sure, security-wise it's not as good as a HW token, but it's already way better than nothing. I've been using it for 2FA on Fedora for several months now without any problem. I'm really surprised that this thread got so far without mentioning FreeOTP...
