This is what confused me:
  My profile is names after my email address.
  So I entirely ignored the button "add new email address", because I
thought it must be obvious for the service.

Works fine, thanks for the clarification!

For the second part:
seems fixed now. It was 100% reproducible for me by uploading jpeg
(the exact same that I had already uploaded once). But I don't see the
ERR 500 anymore.
Also new error message "Invalid Format" has just been introduced,
which covers that.
