And Microsoft is experiencing troubles, and a lot of push back that
they are so far ignoring.  Not all of the troubles are necessarily
from the 6 month release cycle, but I could see them eventually
following Apple with a yearly release.

Really the one to emulate if you want to use anyone as a reference is
Apple - they do an update once a year, they don't force it, yet the
almost all users quite happily do the upgrade in a relatively short
time period.
