We're not talking about YUM, we're talking about DNF... and per the current dnf man page:
>   Update Command
>       dnf [options] update
>              Deprecated alias for the Upgrade Command.

So, yes... it is a just an alias, they are deprecating it (and it has been that way since day 1 for DNF), and their documentation is up to date.
