A cursory examination of the diff shows that PPC64 TLS support was added in RC2, as well as switching the threading support for PPC (both 32 and 64 bit) from mono's 'linuxthreads' model to an 'nptl' model. So, that's probably where to start looking, if the old version still builds OK.
