Snapshot of encrypted LV

Suppose the following scenario.

A LVM logical volume is encrypted with LUKS. For backup purposes, I want to make an LVM snapshot of the LV.

1. Is it possible to decrypt that read-only snapshot? Are write operations involved in luksOpen?

2. Is it possible to prevent the LUKS header from getting copied to the snapshot (if neighboring FS metadata blocks are written to), which should be avoided according to http://www.saout.de/tikiwiki/tiki-index.php?page=LUKSFaq?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

	Jens
