| About LOOP-AES and AES-PIPE (Why is it called AES anyway - from
what I've
| read, there are multiple ciphers avaiable not only AES) - are they
in the
| gentoo-library? I mean, can I install them with gentoos "emerge".
I found
| aes-pipe:
|
| : emerge search aes
| * app-crypt/aespipe
| Latest version available: 2.2a
| Latest version installed: [ Not Installed ]
| Size of downloaded files: 72 kB
| Homepage: http://loop-aes.sourceforge.net
| Description: Encrypts data from stdin to stdout.
| License: GPL-2

The following is for Gentoo users:

You should really be using aespipe 2.3a. Portage has just not been
updated, I have an open bug on the gentoo bugzilla.

http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52046

You can prod them a bit to update portage...

In the meantime you can do the following as root:

1. Uncomment the PORTAGE_OVERLAY in /etc/make.
2. mkdir /usr/local/portage
3. mkdir /usr/local/portage/app-crypt
4. cp -r /usr/portage/app-crypt/aespipe /usr/local/portage/app-crypt
5. cd /usr/local/portage/app-crypt/aespipe
6. cp aespipe-2.2a.ebuild aespipe-2.3a.ebuild
7. ebuild aespipe-2.3a.ebuild fetch
8. ebuild aespipe-2.3a.ebuild digest #after checking GPG sig
9. USE="static" emerge -pv aespipe

| but not aes-loop or loop-aes. I was wondering, if aes-pipe is
there why not
| the (required?) loop-aes? Or is it hidden?

Loop-aes is not in portage since it involves building modules for
your kernel and writing and testing an e-build for every kernel
variant is difficult. Feel free to make an e-build if you can and
post to Gentoo bugzilla.

Best regards,
