Any plans to keep a next-candidate branch for serializing merges and
keep backporting development steady?

Just took a quick glance at a couple of old threads ("10.2.11 Handover
to QE" and "Asking for approval for 12.2.5 for QE validation") and I'm
not fully sure if that approach was fully discarded (and, in that
case, what was the reason).
