Speakup and VT100 Emulation

I have been using ssh on a speakup-equipped Oralux
system to access other UNIX boxes with fairly good results but I
ran in to something I haven't been able to solve yet.

The terminal type defined on this system if you type

echo $TERM is linux and I hadn't had any real problem using the
arrow keys, etc so things seemed normal enough.

Here is what I did that didn't work:

I used ssh to get in to a Linux box that has c-kermit on
board and a serial port. I used that serial port to communicate
with the serial console on a new box that will eventually have
FreeBSD UNIX. When I was using an old P.C. with DOS and
DOS-Kermit as the terminal emulator, this would work correctly.

Under the Linux and speakup console, I am hearing all
the VT100 sequences along with the text that the installer
program is printing to the screen. If I read the full screen
after the data stop coming in, it is all there and readable, but
listening to it as it comes in is a real chore.

I did tell .bash_profile to set the TERM environment
variable to vt100 but this had no effect other than it does now
show vt100 instead of Linux as the TERM type.

Are there any other things I might try to end up with a
more sequential output and no escape sequences?

I think the full-screen output from the FreeBSD
installer does send the data fairly much as one would read it as
I haven't had any problems with the old DOS system and I don't
have problems with other full-screen applications such as lynx
but I really can't use the installer right now because the data
are so garballed.

Strangely enough, the arrow keys still work but one
needs to know for sure where you just went before you enter the
wrong information and have to start over.

	Thank you.
