I believe screen can be set up so that multiple users can use the same
screen session, but this isn't exactly what you're looking for imho. You might check out write. It may require permissions to be set on ttys for various users, I don't recall, but it sends messages to standard error which means they will show up in whatever program you are using. On my debian system write is a part of the bsdmainutils package. There is also kibbitz, but I have only heard a little about it, I am sure you can google for it though if necessary.
