Remember that each system has hardware it will not support. My home computer's sound card isn't supported in Linux; its SCSI card isn't really supported (and doesn't work very well) in Windows. So check the hardware, all of it, very carefully to make sure it works everywhere. Another possibility is to keep your current computer for Windows, if it's not too old, and use the new one for Linux. Or the other way around, for that matter, since Linux (without a GUI at least) is much less demanding on resources. Not sure how that will change when Gnopernicus (or whatever) really becomes available.
