portable speech enabled linux system

I seem to recall that some notebook PC's have a single expansion slot
and am thinking of trying to get one of these devices , and an internal dectalk speech synth and
install a speakup version of Linux on it.

Before I begin such a quest, has anyone else already done this? Or even better,
does anyone know where I can simply buy such a system off the shelf?

While I love my current configuration which consists of two standard
Linux boxes networked together and a third
PC running Dos/vocal eyes/telix as my talking terminal, the sad truth is
that this is just not portable and I suffer extreme computer
withdrawal symptoms when I travel.

Any thoughts? Advice? Encouragement?

Thanks.

rudy
