In essence, (but "real" developpers should maybe tell it better than
me):
there is not only a technical difference between Unix and GNU/Linux, but
there is also a philosophical difference.
To keep it simple, consider that all oses like Unix, BSD, Linux and
many other, are part of the so called Posix-family.
The specific philosophical difference I am talking about, concerns the
fact that GNU/Linux is a FREE and Opensource system. (in some cases
people prefer FreeBSD).
Maybe you can find more about this "community/opensource-minded aspects"
at: http://www.gnu.org/

Thanx for the compliments, but hm, consider me as an advanced
end-user+itinerant idiot. In fact, it is due to the help of new
contributors that the project was able to progress. It is not
correct to consider that it is "my work": currently my French
coworkers are working on it, more than I could do myself.
But that's in the spirit of a community: everyone do his/her best, and
where my knowledge stops, there begins the creativity of other
"wonderful" people, named Dave, Hans, Mario, Seb, Kirk, Jos, and many
other volunteers.

All existing projects are like preparing some coctail: all ingredients
should better exist, and the total should result in something with a
good taste :-)

Enjoy GNU/Linux and have a good sunny sunday.

Osvaldo.
