I suggest you should download and try some version of GNU/Linux you may
install near your other current o s, just to see if you can work with
it, or so that you may reinstall it when you do some important mistakes.
One of it I should suggest is BrlZip or BrlSpeak; see:

BrlZip is based on ZipSlack (a little Slackware), but it provides an
easy installer under DOS, and it may easily be removed later, when you
decide to switch to a real ext2/ext3 GNU/Linux O S.
There are of course other educative distros, but these doesn't provide
such braille/speech minded installation features.
