As I was learning Linux I learned first on Slackware so I agree with you.
once I learned it though I have not used it as much.  On my home system I
have Debian which was a challenge in getting installed.  And on my laptop
I"ve had slackware but will be switching to redhat for no other reason than
to learn the different distros.
