Bookshare.org and Linux

I think though what janina is saying and with which I agree, why fiddle
when you can dance.  pwd might be a good way to go but what can I use to
take advantage of it now?

Not entirely true , rtf is also handled by non-MS systems , also it
should be possible to provide direct parsing in text to speech systems
and in drivers for electromechanical character-cell displays
Another candidate is .pwd wich is ANSI-based and used on the PocketPC
platform
