Theorically the "standard" software raid sould run faster.

(well i really think that none will use this SOFTWARE raid in a i386 :P)

Thats normal see that string: ... "/boot/initrd-2.4.18-4athlon.img
2.4.18-4athlon"

thats not your kernel name.

Yep, ... but remember that your kernel name is not "2.4.18-4athlon" (note
the athlon).
