Don't do that. Promise don't boot if array is not definined. In further if
you need replace broken disk, correct way to do that is:
1. In promise bios, first delete array and make new mirror, but _don't_
clone disks!!! (linux raid-disks are not identical...)
2. After boot linux, you need partition new disk (hde/hdg) and add it to
linux sw-raid (raidhotadd)
(remember: promise use drives last two sectors so don't use them in
partitions!!)

Is it safe to make the array in promise bios, but using the raid controller only as an eide controller?
