Minimalism doesn't mean that no optional features are compiled into a package. Minimalism also doesn't mean that every package is compiled only for your needs. Minimalism means that you only need to install those packages you really need and that you know what is installed on your system. A distribution is not for only one user but for many users who have their own needs. This doesn't contradict minimalism. Show me a more minimalist distribution than Arch and Gentoo. I guess you won't find one. And if you did I suggest you switching to this distro. And again also Gentoo sometime forces you to compile features into a package which you don't like and want to just because they are needed by other packages. If Arch doesn't fit your needs then choose another distro or build one by yourself. Heiko
