Alleged explosive found on Italian plane ROME (AP) =97 Police found an alleged explosive device on a plane waiting to= =20 board passengers for a domestic flight Thursday at an airport in eastern=20 Italy, officials said. The device was found under a seat on an Alitalia=20 plane that had flown in to Ancona from Rome and was scheduled to make a=20 return trip Thursday evening. A fire department official at Ancona's=20 Falconara airport said that police received an anonymous call alerting them= =20 to the device. They removed the device and safely exploded it, the official= =20 said on condition of anonymity. No arrests had been made. The ANSA news=20 agency cited investigators as saying the device appeared to be a cigarette= =20 pack with electrical cords sticking out. The packet was found hidden in a=20 life vest under a seat, it said. Since the device was destroyed, experts=20 will have to piece together the remains to determine whether it was a bomb,= =20 ANSA reported. However, the news agency said investigators believed the=20 device probably contained some explosives because of the size of the blast= =20 during the controlled explosion used to destroy it. Alitalia said it was=20 awaiting the results of the investigation.
