America West Airlines announced today their first post 9/11 expansion to five new cities from Phoenix and Las Vegas. On the big airline side (not AmWest Express) are 2x dailies from Phoenix to Dulles and Pittsburgh; 1x daily to Calgary and 1x daily from Las Vegas to Dulles. The big airline will use A319 equipment. On the mini me side (AmWest Express) are 2x dailies from Phoenix to Medford and Billings. The small airline uses small equipment that is not favored by those over six feet. It'll be interesting to see how United and US Airways react to Cactus' low fares from PHX to PIT and DUL as these city pairs haven't seen much competition. RT Simpson Phoenix
