Actually update-minimal isn't working exactly as I expected. Firefox is a perfect example of this. I used this command; yum update-minimal --advisory=RHSA-2009:0256-06, it properly tried to install firefox 3.0.6 however it pulled in the latest xulrunner which is provided by RHSA-2009:0315-04 (1.9.0.7) even though the advisory I specified explicitly defines xulrunner-1.9.0.6. After installation I am left with an unusuable firefox (Could not find compatible GRE between version 1.9.0.6 and 1.9.0.6.). Please advise.

 The yum-security in RHEL-5.3 has an update-minimal command, which
does exactly that. Eg.

yum update-minimal --security

...will update to the oldest pkgs which fix all security bugs. Note
that you need the old packages available (as the RHEL-5.3 repos. do).

 Also with recentish yum versions you can manually do: yum update
blah-1.2.3 which will work even if blah-1.4.6 is available.
