My first one was like that, a smallish outfit that used to be a
computer consultancy firm before the public internet, and then became
an ISP.  If you contacted them saying you had a connection problem at
4:50 pm when you dialled into 1234 5668 line and got IP www.xxx.yyy.zzz
but nothing was working, they'd go and have a look at the equipment
concerned, check it, maybe give it a poke.  Never blamed you for it.

My current ISP is one of the nation's major telcos who aren't very
good, and are on shakey ground with me.
