Just an addition to this thread.
I have a "pure" KDE VM. I just installed "nautilus" and its dependencies as well as
gvfs-mtp.
I can open traverse the Android 8 file system just fine. I can download files from
Android 8 just fine using "nautilus"
Dolphin which uses kio_mtp fails.
The package is kio_mtp-0.75-17.20141221gitc418634.fc28. Maybe something has changed
a bit since 2014?
That's not the package: if you check the dependencies, that package is for
kdelibs 4.x
The Qt 5 version of kio-mtp is part of kio-extras.
That said the implementation of MTP of some devices (namely Samsung) used to
not play well with multiple connections, and that would have required a major
refactoring of kio-mtp, which may still be the case.
Unfortunately the original blog post from the original author of kio-mtp is
not available anymore, there are few traces around:
