I find it happens with both launching from the desktop menu and from the panel (and it's actually not always the first one either). I don't get this on my machine at home, only my work one. One difference is that home is a single screen setup but work is a dual screen setup.

Thanks for BZ'ing this and drawing my attention to it. I've cc'ed myself
to that bug.
As Florian Sievert says in a later post to this thread, I find the
behaviour somewhat unpredictable and not reproducable every time. I
thought I had fixed it once by clearing our my konsole resource files
but it came back again.
