Re: Language and locale selection

Language selection during installation.

I am a Canadian. In general I use non-American spellings for words (favour, neighbour, etc). I do not use the overworked word "on" such as I would write to you on Anaconda, or talk to you on Anaconda. I would use about, concerning, and occasionally "of". I may take a decision instead of make a decision.

Fedora should ask the documentation group as to which spelling they will standardize and ascribe, and if they will allow ending sentences with a preposition. ("There are 5 options to choose from" vs "there are 5 options from which to choose". The former seems to be acceptable nowadays or is that now-a-days?).  and

My opinion -- One should merge all the English versions to one, but provide keyboard selectioning. For example, my Canadian French keyboard has all the American characters, includes the pound, dollar, cent , Euro and the ¤. My Canadian keyboard follows the USA keyboard layout which has no accented characters.

Narrow down the choices for English selection to one presentation version and only one version.  Adjust the sentence phrasing to be universally acceptable. Much easier and I believe more universally acceptable.

I would take that same approach as well for French and Spanish.  In the Post implementation period, allow the user to select the appropriate language variation.

My other recommendation.
Don't make Anaconda too heavy with language choices, but concentrate on allowing as yes/no checkbox, to activate Fedora updates during the installation. You may also decide if the testing repository should be included. I personally would not include the testing repository.

If you include that checkbox option then acknowledge some of RPMFUSION (free ) as an option, since every Fedora user that I have dealt with includes the RPMFUSION free stuff in their after installation setup.

I believe Fedora is a great desktop distribution, superior to some others.

I don't really like either.  To me, it's not at all clear what is being
asked of me here.

I'm curious if this even needs to be at this early stage of
installation.  Does this setting really affect anaconda?  Can it be
pushed off to perhaps its own spoke while package installation is
happening?
