That being said, a cable's Ω or a termination resistor issue anyway unlikely could be culprits related to your problem, I just was curious. alsamixer shows "coaxial", "optical" and "internal" for my RME's SPDIF. I'm to lazy to test or google what "internal" is for. A wild guess, a connection for a CD/DVD drive.
