 0-3 are playback and 4-6 are capture devices.

That seems odd.  They don't normally mix I think.  You have play devices 0-3 and record devices 0-2.They're separate lists.  So device 6 is invalid.

Whatever format I use I get an error saying as `unable to hw params` I tried plughw which also didn’t worked. I’m not sure where and how to debug this issue.

I have a mono mic for recording and it took Mono. I also tried with 8bit but I get same error.
