This means that snd-seq is not loaded, but I guess you don't want to use MIDI anyway ...

There is no ALSA sound card.

So snd-hda-intel is loaded?

Does it write any error messages to the system log when you try to load it?
(see /var/log/messages or the output of dmesg)
