Thanks, but no luck.  Downgraded from skype 2.1.0.81 to 2.0.0.72 with no
major change - tremendous amount of static when recording.  So it seems
application unrelated.  Any other ideas?  I've gone through all the OS
wiki audio troubleshooting guides and alsa page audio testing info
without result.  Gustav
