I'm using the nvidia driver version 195.36.24

I activate all the outputs in alsamixer.

I can select the hdmi output explicitly using aplay:

aplay -D hw:1,3 test.wav
or
aplay -D hdmi:CARD=NVidia test.wav

or I can specify this as the default using ~/.asoundrc

pcm.!default {
        type asym
        playback.pcm {
                type plug
                slave.pcm "hw:1,3"
        }
}
