Hello there, I've been warned you may not like the idea of using pulseaudio. :) OK. I've got Linux Mint (KDE version) and microphone that wouldn't work. My distro included pulseaudio out of the box. The story is lengthy but I'll describe my problem. First I wanted to use Skype but it was before releasing the current version (beta). Some folks advised me to get rid of pulseaudio so I did. Skype sometimes worked and sometimes not. But the microphone worked. I could also record my voice in audacity. But soon some problems appeared. Namely, the flash plugin in Firefox blocked my audio input so I couldn't use my microphone - I had to log off and log in and couldn't use my browser with flash running before I ran skype. It wasn't efficient. So the other folks told me to install pulseaudio - it supposed to fix my problems. I installed pulseaudio according to kubuntu/ubuntu wiki. In the meantime I dropped out the idea of using skype because of consuming too much of my cpu and because of its closed nature. Anyway my microphone became a "dead phone" and couldn't use it both in skype and even audacity. It also turned out that to record my voice in audacity using pulseaudio I have to take some tricks... really horrible. So I didn't really know there are such problems with stupid voice recording. Of course I don't blame you. I am used to work in console and the configuration of such distro like Gentoo isn't horror to me. I use Linux for a couple of years but this issue really frustrated me. I'm really confused about pulseaudio: some folks say to use it and the other to not. I want to use only some voip client and chat with my friends. Also I don't want to re-log to free my audio input. The microphone is working. That's the fact (I used it successfully in Windows a few minutes ago). I have it plugged-in at the back of my PC. I have also switched on all necessary audio channels in alsa-mixer (including audio input). I hope I'll find here good people that will help me. The problem overwhelmed me and I'm so frustrated :( ps here I also wrote about my problem: http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=82663 cheers, Wojtek :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Come build with us!
