I can't be quite sure if I've plugged the right jack, so I checked if it works with "strace", which should give a blur of activity (and finish in a few seconds) for normal operation or just hang indefinitely (in case of plughw) on poll(2) call for abnormal one. Nothing worked so far. Guess my case is a little bit more complicated because atihdmi codec is also used for video card (although I don't build it) and the linked thread states that such combination is not a good thing, hence the patches. So now I wonder if I should test it with video card pulled out, but a bit unsure whether positive results there would be any good for me.
