This took a little research since I haven't had to do detailed Alsa
troubleshooting in a while. (I have just been lucky.)

There is a script:
http://git.alsa-project.org/?p=alsa-driver.git;a=blob_plain;f=utils/alsa-inf
o.sh
that captures all of the details about your sound system and can be viewed
online. It will tell you what is installed how its configured etc. Its
reasonably secure and doesn't seem to reveal anything about the source ID
but I would be careful to check it before posting the url. Let me know what
you discover or post the url after you have checked for any sensitive
identifiable info.

Thanks for your replies. I tried to upgrade by using the script as well as
step-by-step upgrading the driver (download the driver, tar xvf the file,
sudo ./Configure blabla, sudo make, finally sudo make install). I also
checked the script log file, but I'm a newbie, so I don't understand too
much about all the msgs.

It is written that: "ALSA modules were successfully compiled.". The only
warning I got after installing the driver is: "WARNING!!! The mixer channels
for the ALSA driver are muted by default!!!". Is there any specific messages
that I need to watch carefully?

Best regards,
