Audigy2 ZS (emu10k1), no midi synth output

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi,

I have a Creative Labs Audigy2 ZS 7.1 (SB0350) soundcard. For some
reason, I can't get MIDI synth output from it anymore. The last time I
played MIDI files on it was more than 2 years ago, so, I don't know
exactly when it stopped working, many kernel and alsa-lib updates
happened during this time.

Of course, synth mixer settings are ok and a soundfount bank is properly
loaded (using PCLite.sf2 from http://www.personalcopy.com/).

~% amixer -c0 sget Synth
Simple mixer control 'Synth',0
  Capabilities: pvolume cvolume
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right
  Limits: Playback 0 - 100 Capture 0 - 100
  Front Left: Playback 100 [100%] [0.00dB] Capture 100 [100%] [0.00dB]
  Front Right: Playback 100 [100%] [0.00dB] Capture 100 [100%] [0.00dB]

~% cat /proc/asound/Audigy2/wavetableD1

During playback of any MIDI file (to any 17:x device listed above), the
card remains silent, the driver reports as being used, but with no
voices allocated:

~% cat /proc/asound/Audigy2/wavetableD1
Device: Emu10k1

This is where I think it is the problem, zero allocated voices. The
sequencer timer works properly, and you notice that the MIDI player is
playing the MIDI file, but with no sound and no dmesg output.

On another box, with a SB Live! 5.1 (different card, same kernel
module), the very same procedure results in good playback, reporting 64
allocated voices during playback.

I don't know if my suspects are correct, and if so, how to fix it. Could
someone lend me some help?

Complete aadebug output follows.

Thanks in advance.

Juliano.
