Re: Troubles with snd-hda-intel on an Asus w5f

Some more info: It works under Fedora 7 with a kernel 2.6.23, it does not work with Ubuntu 8.04 kernel 2.6.24, Fedora 10 kernel 2.6.27, Knoppix 5.3.1 kernel 2.6.24, with the same symptom, only the modem codec is recognized.
Under Knoppix 5.1.0, kernel 2.6.19 it does show a PCM codec, but it does not work for whatever other reasons.

Does this make sense to anyone?
Thanks
Salvatore

Tried both 3stack-660-digout and  3stack-660, with no effect: the only codec shown is still the Motorola Si3054.
WHat else can I try ?
thanks

Salvatore

Hello,
I have the  following problem. The machine I use works under fedora 7
with the configuration specified at
 http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=93964b2ec68d1f912509bb1ac2ee02a5163ec4a1
somehow this is working despite the error
hda_codec: Unknown model for ALC660VD/ALC861VD, trying auto-probe from
BIOS...

Under Fedora 10 sound does not work, the only codec that gets recognized
is the modem one. Scan results are at

http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=552b7c6386f59813a04150545ab79f92d4af2e8a

Note that subsystem ID is
Subsystem: 1043:1262
whereas the web page lists asus w5f as :1263. Dunno if this is of any
importance.
I tried probe_mask=1 3   4 8   as per
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/tiwai/sound-2.6.git;a=blob_plain;f=Documentation/sound/alsa/HD-Audio.txt;hb=HEAD
with no success.

Suggestions anybody?
From the F7 output you have an ALC660-VD.  Looking in
alsa-kernel/Documentation/ALSA_configuration.txt file from
the driver tar ball unpack, it shows the following as models
for that device.

      ALC861VD/660VD
        3stack        3-jack
        3stack-dig    3-jack with SPDIF OUT
        6stack-dig    6-jack with SPDIF OUT
        3stack-660    3-jack (for ALC660VD)
        3stack-660-digout 3-jack with SPDIF OUT (for ALC660VD)
        lenovo        Lenovo 3000 C200
        dallas        Dallas laptops
        hp            HP TX1000
        auto          auto-config reading BIOS (default)

So you want to put lines in /etc/modprobe.conf with the
following.

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-ice1724 index=0 model=3stack-660-digout
Typo, it's options snd-hda-intel index=0 model=3stack-660-digout, not ice1724 :)
If this doesn't work, try the 3stack-660 model.

Thanks.  I cut and pasted and didn't get all the module names.  Ooops!!
