Most likely because the mia usb sound card is just not being found. I think the driver not loading may have something to do with needing firmware to be loaded into the USB device before it becomes usable. There are various firmware package versions here... ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/firmware/ use this to find out exactly what alsa version you have... cat /proc/asound/version All I can suggest now is more Googling in the hope of finding a precise article or posting about ubuntu and mia.
