Basically, the device needs some firmware to be loaded before it can be used. When you boot into Windows the driver automatically loads the firmware into the device. If you keep the device powered (ie. with a soft reset), the firmware stays loaded on the midisport. This link is Ubuntu specific, but you should be able to adapt the information to SuSe. Your worst case scenario is that you have to type a command to load the firmware. It should happen automatically but I don't know anything about SuSe to be able to help you there. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=96506 /etc/udev/rules.d is where there should be a script with midisport in the name. There may be some hints in here about why things are not working (like the path to the firmware perhaps?). The firmware is usually stored in /lib/firmware, at least on my systems.
