Card 0 is the onboard hda-intel device. -Dsurround71 plays perfectly out
of that device on all 8 channels.  Unfortunately, the project I'm
working on needs to also support an older motherboard that only has a
intel-8x0 chip with 2 channels, hence the need for the PCI sound card.

For card 1, the only multichannel option I get is surround40, which gets
the front and rear speakers working, but no side or center channels.
I'm not sure why the card is being detected as a CMI8738.  The chip is
labeled 8768/PCI-8ch, and I suppose it could simply be mislabeled, but
there are 4 analog speaker outputs in addition to the line in and mic.
