run   aplay -lLv   to see all of your sound cards and the PCMs defined 
for them.

Then pick the PCM for this card that is 8 channels. 

 From the error above it looks like it is identifying the card before 
you specify it.  You might try without the :1 on the surround71, if 
there is a surround71 in the PCMs defined.
