Sadly, IIRC, ALSA needs to be compiled by the same compiler as the kernel.

You mention gcc-4.3.0, so maybe it's not the case.

Secondly, gcc-4.3.0 breaks/"breaks" a lot of things - it tries to better enforce
standards, but there is a lot of code around violating the standards.

and other reports mentioned in the above URL.

I'd probably stick to gcc-4.2.3 for a time being.
