IF /dev/dsp is already locked, aoss isn't going to help.  Unless you redirect it to another device not in use / locked.  Also aoss does NOT cover any children launched by the app started with aoss.  i.e. Firefox, any popups are not covered by aoss even if you start firefox with aoss.  And there's other apps that don't seem to play well with aoss like festival.  From a users perspective anyway.
